I paint what is around me. “Women understand this. One is not duchess a hundred yards from a carriage” (Wallace Stevens). I paint portraits, often from photographs, the small rooms where life happens, the people close to me. What is vivid, and what needs to be made vivid. I care equally about capturing a resemblance to the subject and liberating the life of the paint.
